SoCal Desert Cleanup respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through socaldesertcleanup.org and the illegal-dumping reporting tool, why we collect it, and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
We may collect information that you choose to provide, including your name, email address, phone number, volunteer or partnership inquiry, and donation-related communications. The illegal-dumping reporting form may collect a location or map coordinates, address or nearest road, type and severity of waste, description, date and time, uploaded photographs, and optional reporter contact information and follow-up consent.
We may also receive ordinary technical information used to operate and protect the site, such as browser type, device type, pages visited, approximate location derived from an IP address, and security or error logs. If Google Analytics is enabled, it is used to understand aggregate site use and improve the website.
How we use information
We use information to document and track illegal dumping, evaluate reported locations, communicate when permission is provided, respond to inquiries, coordinate volunteers and partners, process donations, maintain site security, and improve our programs and website.
Service providers and disclosure
Reporting data may be processed by service providers that host or operate the website, application, database, map, file storage, email, and Airtable workflows. Donations are processed on Zeffy’s website and are also subject to Zeffy’s privacy practices. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect safety or legal rights, or with your direction.
Data retention and security
We retain records for as long as reasonably needed for documentation, program operations, legal compliance, security, and nonprofit recordkeeping. We use reasonable safeguards, but no internet transmission or storage system is completely secure.
Your choices
Contact us to ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information you submitted, subject to legal and operational recordkeeping requirements. You may submit an illegal-dumping report anonymously by leaving the optional contact fields blank. Do not upload photographs containing unnecessary personal information, faces, license plates, private documents, or other sensitive material.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly request personal information from children under 13.
Reporting-form privacy notice
The reporting form creates a documentation and tracking record. It is not an emergency service, cleanup request, or guarantee of cleanup. Location details, photographs, waste information, and any optional contact information may be stored in SoCal Desert Cleanup’s reporting systems and reviewed by authorized staff, service providers, or appropriate public partners. Only provide information you are authorized to share. For emergencies, active crimes, hazardous spills, fire, or immediate threats, contact 911 or the appropriate public agency.
